Eating Our Way Through NYC

“And then there is the most dangerous risk of all — the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.” – Randy Komisar

We’ve found ourselves this weekend in New York City. The Big Apple. The city that never sleeps. The city so nice they named it twice. The city of dreams. Empire city. Gotham.

Standard jabs from friends on social media, “must be nice not to have to work” and “where do I get a job with your vacation time.”

Working for myself for the last decade, I’ve heard it all before. The truth is I’ve worked more or less all day, including the plane flight and right up till I sat down to write this post. I just happen to be able to do it from anywhere (and trust me, it’s not always a blessing).

You could negotiate more time off instead of more money…what a concept. More of the one thing you are guaranteed never to get any more of, ever, in your life. It all comes down to choices really. Couple the “extra” time, with the “extra” money from not buying every new car, tv, trinket or any of the other cheap chinese garbage from Walmart and…voila!!!…New York City.

But I digress.

Having never been in the winter, it’s been fun these first few hours to see the skating rink at Rockefeller Center, the light show at Saks Fifth Avenue, the NYE Ball, etc etc.

We are staying at The Roosevelt Hotel. An iconic old place where, it turns out, a number of movies were filmed..but sadly, not Home Alone, as I was led to believe:

But let’s be honest… I’m here for the food.

Foody spots per mile, this place flaunts some of the best joints in the world, right at our doorstep. We’ve only been here 3 hours and have made 4 stops…. including a place called Bar Bacon. Seriously, what more do you need in life.

So for the next 3 days, I’m going to eat myself through New York City. Right now…gotta go… we have a dinner res at Beauty & Essex!

See you on the journey…
