Welcome to the Friday Roundup this January 25, 2019!
A recurring weekly post to keep it light and short – the goal of any Friday.
Each week I’ll share the quote I’ve been pondering most, the book that has received the most reading time, my favorite photo of the week and whatever song I can’t seem to shake. There is always one… right?
Happy Friday Kids! Enjoy.
“The man afflicted by hunger for power or money for its own sake is just that: afflicted. He is tormented by incessant desires for more without cause. He is the most likely to wear a social mask to succeed, and thus he is always unsure of himself and his life, the deep tear inside always causing him to obsess about how to get more, why he doesn’t have it already, and whom he will have to please or become in order to get it.”
This author was brought to my attention on 3 different occasions, and you know how I feel about threes if you read this: They Come In Threes…
Joan Didion, a journalist who redefined LA in the sixties writing for Vogue, recounts the death of her husband. In striking, emotion filled detail, her style of writing, at once crisp, warm and direct, makes it a hard book to put down. I’ll let you know how it progresses.
This one was a toss up. My dog Marley… a young 14… was looking dapper on the reading couch too many times to count this week. The photo of him sitting, half asleep, with a book about happiness at his side seemed uniquely apropos. He, like most animals, by all counts isn’t worried about happiness. Or sadness. Death. What he said last week. Retirement. None of it. He just is.
Fact: I’m an enormous Foo Fighters fan. But I wasn’t always. They played a co-headline with Pearl Jam at Music Midtown in Atlanta, GA in 2012 and from then on I was hooked. Since that day in Atlanta, I’ve seen them 14 times all around the world. From small venues like The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville with just a couple thousand in attendance, to a two night spectacle at the soccer stadium in Mexico City…with around 50,000 squeezed in tight – they never disappoint.
Bonus: Here are a few Foo Fotos:
- A much plumper me, hanging with Taylor Hawkins (Foo Drummer) at the St. Regis in Mexico City.
- Dave getting down 10 feet away from us at The National in Virginia
- Me, waiting to get into The Ryman, one of the coolest venues I’ve ever been to.
- Everlong via YouTube – This weeks Song of the Week.
