Friday Roundup! 2/8/19 Vamos a Costa Rica!

Greetings from the Admirals Lounge at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Off to Costa Rica today. It’s been far too long since I’ve been, and I couldn’t be more excited to be going back! Pura Vida!

Welcome to the Friday Roundup this February 8, 2019!

A recurring weekly post to keep it light and short – the goal of any Friday.

Each week I’ll share the quote I’ve been pondering most, the book that has received the most reading time, my favorite photo of the week and whatever song I can’t seem to shake. There is always one… right?

Happy Friday Kids! Enjoy.

Quote:

“ Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” – Gustav Flaubert

I honestly believe that if everyone in America had the opportunity to travel to at least 10 other countries, there would be far less talk about “them” and “those people” whoever “they” may be on the current 24 hour news cycle.

After years of travel, one thing I’ve learned for certain is that most people out there are just like you and me.

Just. Like. You. And. Me.

They want what’s best for their loved ones. They want to laugh. They want to enjoy a good meal or a beverage with a friend.

They may look different. They may talk different. But they are human, and with rare exception, are far more like you than they are different.

Travel breeds understanding, compassion and empathy. If that isn’t worth the price of admission, I don’t know what is.

Book:

Not a new book, but this one did arrive and so far it’s been a great read. It’s the only book I’m bringing along for the week, so hope to have it wrapped up before my return and can provide a full review.

What I’m finding however is that each page is so thought provoking, I’m drifting off into my own head while my eyes blindly follow line after line without actually reading. Therefore it’s taking me about 3 times longer to actually digest the information.

Does that happen to anyone else?

Will let one of the reviews take the lead here too:

“This is your wake-up call! You may not have even realized you were sleep-walking. Most of us are most of the time. Awareness is an eye-opener. It’s Anthony de Mello telling you gently but firmly, ‘It’s time to get up now.'” –Charles Osgood of “CBS Sunday Morning” and “The Osgood File”

Side note: I absolutely love CBS Sunday Morning. Anyone else? Those trumpets are good for the soul I think…

Photo:

This week we have a video. Saturday we drove out to Atlanta for Super Bowl festivities and found ourselves at the Direct TV Super Saturday Night concert with Foo Fighters, Run the Jewels and a slew of guest performances.

What was most impressive was the building however. 72,000 square feet that was erected in two weeks, and just for this 2-3 hour show. They started dismantling it the next morning. Here is a video I took inside and a link to a full write up is here.  Being a builder, this thing was impressive beyond belief.

Song:

Sorry. Had to. And you’re welcome.

See you on the journey…
