“Way down yonder on the Chattahoochee, it gets hotter than a hoochie coochie” – Alan Jackson
If you aren’t familiar with the song, you can enjoy the entire masterpiece here.
I haven’t done a “travel blog” in quite some time, despite having traveled to some pretty awesome places including Spain, Portugal and more, in recent months.
That’s how crazy this place is.
We have found ourselves in Helen, Georgia a reallllly small town on the banks of the Chattahoochee river.
Population 510… per the 2010 census.
The strangest little town I have ever had the pleasure of visiting…and I’ve been to some really strange towns on this planet, including Seligman, AZ just last year. Check it out here.
Having read Thursdays post, as I know you did, we are here to look at what may become @LadyLolaMae PartII. The owner keeps her rig at Top of Georgia Airstream Park, just north of Helen.
Before this weekend, Helen, Georgia had never appeared on my radar, despite having traveled through Georgia for some 30+ years.
Formerly a logging town in decline, the city reinvented itself as a mini Bavarian replica village. Seriously, it’s uncanny. Being mostly German in heritage, I’ve been to my fair share of German American festivals and the like. This place takes the cake…. or strudel as it were.
Wineries. Hiking. Waterfalls. Delicious authentic food and beer. This place has it all. Even mini golf.
Well as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so, here is a little slice of Helen. See what I did there?
See you on the journey….
