TSD = Toss. Sell. Donate.
So you’ve banished gift giving for the holidays…
You’ve decided you can live with less everything…
You’ve begun to reconsider and refuse…
Wanting your life to be bigger, better and prettier is no longer your guiding star…
Good work!
Brace yourself, because it’s time to start purging.
Ack!!
With the possibility of some time off or unexpected snow days during the holidays when would now be a good time to start that process?
Here are four guidelines I’ve used to help keep the motivation up on my own purging journey. Maybe you’ll find them useful.
1. If it’s still in a box from your last move, it’s not even up for discussion. Toss, sell, donate. Today.
2. Have you used it in the last year? If the answer is no… toss, sell, donate… today.
3. Those first two should have you well on your way to Less-ville! With what’s left, ask yourself, “does this item bring me joy?” No? TSD. You know the drill by now.
4. Finally, if you’re having a hard time deciding, the default answer is TSD. If you need some motivation however, ask yourself if you can replace this thing if you make a grave error and toss something you actually need some day. Yes? TSD.
Perhaps the best piece of advice I could give you though, like most things in life, is just to start.
Anywhere. A drawer. A closet. A little “win” and the feeling of accomplishment with even a small decluttering will put you in motion.
See you on the journey…
