5 Signs You’re Ready for A Life Change
“When the student is ready the teacher will appear. When the student is truly ready… The teacher will Disappear.” – Tao Te Ching
1. You’re Reading This Article.
Have you noticed that when you are ready for a change, of any kind really, you’re drawn to articles, teachers, shows, documentaries and books that reinforce what you want to be true? If what you’re choosing to spend your off time doing, reading or studying revolves around a recurring theme. It might be a sign you’re ready for a course correction.
2. You’re Tired of Merely Surviving.
Most of us started out with big dreams and big audacious goals. When you ask a group of 5th graders what they want to be when they grow up, what are the answers? Astronaut. Fireman. A mother$*&in hustler… in the case of young Snoop Dogg. No young person says, “review spreadsheets and quarterly budgets and avoid Janice in accounting”. And for those that did, congrats on fulfilling that dream. The reality is, most of us settled at some point. For security. For “normal”. For a life designed by someone other than ourselves.
Did you?
3. You Feel Like Something is Missing
From the outside looking in, you appear to have a great life. A good job. A car. A home. A close circle of friends. But you can’t rid yourself of the nagging feeling that something is missing. That you’re lacking the passion that others seem to have for their work. A general feeling of anxiousness and unease could mean you’re ready for a shift in your thinking or a change of life course…or both.
4. Is This All There Is?
We have all had that sinking feeling. Tony Robbins, a great mentor that introduced me to so many other wonderful teachers, said never to reach the finish line of an achievement without first setting the next goal. That phrase stuck with me 20 years ago and has proven to be true over and over again in my life. Think about where you are today. Chances are, the life you are living right now, was a life you only dreamed of years ago. That job. That relationship. They were once goals. Dreams. If you feel like, “is this all their is?”, it may be time to set some new audacious goals again in the direction of your soul… astronaut anyone?
5. You’re Not Living Your Dreams
Apologies if it sounds too cliche. But if you don’t wake up every day with a zest for life…this is the biggest sign of them all. Wayne Dyer said, “don’t die with your music still in you”. We all have music we were meant to share with this world. If you aren’t living your passion, if you don’t have that zest for life, change it.
Now.
This isn’t a dress rehearsal….
THE THANKFULNESS SPIRAL
Also, spend some time being thankful for what you have. Each morning, my walk is started with a thankfulness spiral. A principal a great teacher long ago shared with me. Start with yourself, your health, your education, your experience and spiral out from there. Your partner. Your family. Your close friends. Your acquaintances. After a few minutes of thankfulness each day, it’s easier to see more clearly the truly important things in your life…and to set goals that will enable you to make those things a priority moving forward
